CANON: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete
CANON POINT: Shortly before his final scene in the movie.
AGE: 21 for the purposes of the game as he appears to be somewhere in his early 20s and has no age listed canonical.
HISTORY: Wiki Link

Brief History: Yazoo is one of three Remnants of Sephiroth. Each one is a cluster of fragments of the former SOLDIER’s personality and will that manifested two years after the events of the original Final Fantasy VII game from the Lifestream itself after it had been tainted by Sephiroth’s apparent demise. As we all know though, you can not keep a good Villain down for long.

Yazoo, and his brothers Kadaj and Loz (aka The Trio) had one all consuming mission that they shared thanks to this connection: to find their Mother (remains of the alien parasite named Jenova) and bring about their Reunion. Though it seemed none of the Remnants knew exactly what that was or how they would do it when questioned. They then pretty much went on a rampage hunting for a container that had a random cluster of Jenova cells sealed away inside of it. Targeting first Rufus Shinra and his Turks, then Cloud Strife, Tifa Lockhart and the two children that they care for, then the city of Midgar and finally Rufus Shinra one final time before Cloud and his team actually properly did something about it.

We find out through the course of the story that a mysterious illness (Geostigma) that has been plaguing the people since shortly after the original game ended was actually an infection of Jenova cells that some people had contracted and that their bodies (and the Lifestream) were attempting to fight it off with no known cure for it. The Trio claimed people suffering from this infection were the chosen of Jenova and to have a cure which was used to lure orphaned or abandoned children suffering from Geostigma away from the city and turn them into mindless puppets for the Trio to control and use as living shields in their assaults inside Midgar.

There was a lot of over the top combat, Sephiroth made his appearance and was once again defeated by Cloud (killing Kadaj in the process) and just as everything looked to be all well again, he’s shot through the back only to find that Yazoo and Loz were still somehow (barely) standing. As he charged towards them to finish the fight, the pair overloaded several max powered Materia that were stolen from Cloud earlier to blow all three up and into the afterlife. Cloud survived thanks to a little help from a couple of old friends inside the Lifestream, though that wasn’t the case so much for Yazoo and his two brothers

VICES & VIRTUES: In no particular order:

Pride: Oh, the ego. Yazoo is not lacking in pride at all which makes a lot of sense considering he’s a reflection of a megalomaniac. Arguably a very strong and powerful one, yes. This sense of superiority is reflected in the way he viewed others as somehow lesser creatures than his family and disdain for them show mostly through subtle sneers and looks of disgust. He’s also dismissive of the capabilities of others which lead him to severely underestimate opponents. Something we see when he treats Reno as more of a joke than a fight and finds himself tested by the turk because of this.

Wrath: You know that old saying “still waters run deep”? Beneath that calm and cool demeanor is a wrath that once stirred can be vicious beyond measure. Much like his pride causes him to believe that those whom aren’t of Jenova’s brood are somehow lesser creatures, his wrath stems from a belief that those who played a hand in his mother’s “death” and all their ilk are treacherous murderers and they deserve nothing more than to be completely wiped from the face of Gaia. Preferably in the most painful ways possible. It isn’t so much that he doesn’t do anything about his rage either but more that when he does snap, he makes his anger everyone’s problem, reacting with force or sending monsters out to attack and kill whomever is close at hand. That said, he’s shown to frequently be the most level headed and calm of the Remnants and it does take a while for these cases of lashing out to happen… Unless you insult his Mother. Apparently that’s a sore spot for each member of the Trio as it only takes one off hand remark by Reno and Rude to cause Yazoo and his brother Loz to drop the task at hand they have and begin a fight with the pair of Turks.

Diligence: What is there to say about this other than from the moment he was “born” to the day he died, everything Yazoo did was in the pursuit of being reunited with his Mother. He’s never shown to be eating, sleeping, or resting in any form. Instead he is tirelessly hunting down the people believed to be responsible for keeping her away from them or finding and bringing people (children) into the fold to help in that quest. And anyone that was perceived as a threat to that goal was hunted down and eliminated (or at least he did his damnedest to do so), even going so far as to blow himself up in order to get revenge against the one person that ruined everything as far as he was concerned.

Temperance: Cool, calm, and collected to the point of apathy. Of the three Remnants, Yazoo is the stoic and mature one, only really speaking when he has something worth saying (or to make a little sarcastic dig at someone). He practices a self-control that would make more people weep and that stoic expression he wears only cracks a few times to show some hints of what’s really going on behind his eyes. Usually in the heat of battle when something has gone differently than he expected or in a rare case, when Reno got under his skin with a jab regarding his Mother. (Seriously, these boys have some severe Mommy Issues and it’s all Sephiroth’s fault.) And unlike his brothers, he isn’t shown simply doing something because he enjoys it but instead everything he does has a purpose behind it. For example, when he’s shown racing down the streets of Midgar on his motorcycle it seems that he is simply doing so to terrorize the public but he very purposefully stops to look at Denzel, and through context clues later on it becomes apparently that the whole purpose of that ride was to count how many children with Geostigma were in the area as he returns to collect them for the Trio’s purposes. He isn’t just simply doing something because he wants to but because it is a means to an end.

Lust: To quote the wiki, “Yazoo embodies Sephiroth's allure”. He enjoys the heat of battle probably a little too much as he displays a bit of a sadistic streak in his and given how little living he did, would most likely be a deeply indulgent creature with a lust of life and desire to experience as many new opportunities and sensations as he could until he figured out which particular vices he preferred over others or discovered the follies of going too hard too fast and learned to temper himself more appropriately.

SUITABILITY: I’ll be honest here, Yazoo has had a very brief life in canon. It was chaotic, obsessive, violent and messy. He managed to do several things that no rational person ever would and he didn’t have a choice in that. Yes, he had a name, a physical form and we saw some of his personality but he was not in control of his life or his fate. He was a living puppet for Sephiroth to attempt to worm his way back into life who controlled all three through the Jenova cells that were infused into their bodies, whispering away in the back of their minds to drive them into completing their mission as quickly as possible. I would love the opportunity to explore what he would be without that insidious connection. Free from the influence of an Alien parasite, an obsessive and destructive madman and missing the echo chamber feedback that are his brothers as they were probably worse influences on each other than they ever came to realize.

Additionally, he never really got a chance to live and experience what that truly meant, nor many of the dangers of the kinds of extremes people are capable of. What little bit of living he did do was most certainly done to the extreme but as far as he was concerned, he was at war. The thought of what he would do afterwards never crossed his mind but it would be a lie to say that he wouldn’t be curious or even confused to find himself at a loose end in a world that is similar but also very, very different from his own. I would love to take this concept and run with it, if given the opportunity to. And I hope that through this application and the writing samples below, I’ve provided enough information that you’ll agree to take that opportunity with me.

POWERS:Yazoo has a few powers and abilities that can be scaled down or nullified fairly easily for the purposes of the game should that be seen fit.

Skilled marksman - Yazoo prefers to make ranged attacks and offer surprising fire while teaming up with his brother Loz who specializes in hand-to-hand combat and is shown to be incredibly skilled in such as he’s able to fire off several rounds with accuracy while engaged in acrobatic feats as well as driving a motorcycle at high speed.

Extraordinarily Agile - He’s able to dodge and leap away from several dangerous strikes made against him by Cloud as well as other very competent fighters throughout the course of the story, even using Cloud’s own sword as a platform to launch himself into the air for an aerial attack after leaping onto the blade to evade a strike.

Capable in Close Quarters - There are several moments where others have gotten past his guard and he has been left with no choice but to engage in close quarters combat in which he displays a strong knowledge of some kind of Martial Arts. He’s shown to prefer deploying well timed kicks and flips to try and force his enemies away from him so that he can resume firing upon them from a distance.

Motorcycle Madman - He drives a motorcycle like he’s in a Fast & Furious movie, complete with the ability to ignore the laws of physics and gravity.

Durable AF - All the Remnants are able to take more physical trauma than any normal person would be and it took an actual skyscraper leveling explosion to finally put an end to Yazoo. Most likely this was due to his connection to Sephiroth who wasn’t exactly your typical “normal guy” to start with.

Shadow Creepers - Due to his connection with the tainted energies inside the Lifestream, presumably through Sephiroth, Yazoo has an ability to summon hordes of anti-life creatures referred to as Shadow Creepers, a monstrous quadruped creature that looks like a cross between some kind of panther/hound, shadow stuff and the skull of a giant rat.

Materias - Should he have access to materias, Yazoo would be able to have access to a variety of spells and spell-like abilities once they were equipped on his person properly.

INVENTORY: Aside from his clothing, he would have his cellphone and Loz’s gun (Velvet Nightmare)which he used to shoot Cloud. I can’t think of a third item he would have other than one of the several Materias he used to help cause the explosion and I would not wish to bring one of those into the setting.

PREFERENCE: Random
OPT OUTS: Nope. I’m up to let the whims of fate/mods decide.
